Aphon · The old town opens through clothing

The first of the six A's in Takua Pa old town · Kebaya, patterns, and Peranakan beauty through Chang Pong's brush

The first of the six A's in Takua Pa old town is open · Aphon invites us to read the town through clothing, patterns, and accessories in Chang Pong's paintings.

The six A's are a way to read the town

Kuapapoh presents six A's: Aphon, Asai, Ahan, Arom, Aram, and Akhan. They cover local clothing, ways of living, food, art and music, temples and shrines, and buildings and architecture.

Aphon opened first because the exhibition at 78 Studio gives us something to see immediately in September 2026 · clothing becomes the first doorway into the town's beauty and identity.

Peranakan Charm is evidence of identity across every stage of a life shaped by a love of art amid Peranakan culture.

Peranakan clothing in the paintings

The paintings show kebaya, a blue gold-embroidered kebaya, white cutwork lace, floral batik, kosang brooches, gold bracelets, and a lacquered tiffin carrier. These details appear together with color, flowers, backgrounds, and the women's poses.

The project describes Aphon as local clothing, lace, batik sarongs, textile patterns, and accessories. Chang Pong's paintings make that description visible.

The solo exhibition Peranakan Charm by Chang Pong · Tinnapop Ngansathin runs in September 2026 at 78 Studio on Takua Pa Culture Street. It uses brushwork to tell the town's story through pattern, color, and clothing, linking past and present.

The Kuapapoh project turns empty rooms in the old buildings into creative space. Number 78 was once the home of a mine owner and the office of a tin mining company; today it houses the Kuapa Mueang Museum, with a programme that changes through the year · Read more about the buildings and the project at the Kuapapoh website

Chang Pong was born in Takua Pa old market. He studied at Silpakorn University, has exhibited his art, illustrated buildings and places in Phang Nga, worked on the film RAMBO 6, and makes book covers. He is now an assistant municipal artist and an independent artist.
